Dye Ratio Calculator

Calculate dye amounts based on weight of goods (WOG) and desired depth of shade.

Inputs

g
%

Light: 0.5–1%, Medium: 1–3%, Dark: 3–6%

%

100% for pure dye powder, lower for diluted/premixed

ml of water per gram of fabric (default 20:1)

Results

Dye Powder

2.00 g

Water

2000 ml

Tips

1
Weigh fiber dry for consistent results. Wet fiber gives inaccurate weight-of-goods.
2
Start with a lower DOS and increase. You can always add more dye, but can't take it out.

Open formula

Dye Amount = Fiber Weight × (DOS% / 100)
Water = Fiber Weight × Liquor Ratio

Uses weight of goods and depth of shade to calculate dye quantity.

DOS varies: acid dyes 0.5-4%, fiber reactive 1-6%, natural dyes 50-200% WOG.
